YAOXIAOSHU Vol.64: Little Tree

Give it a score

Little Tree, this is my nickname for my classmate Little Tree. When he was very young, he began to shout. As he kept Shouting, he grew into a small tree. I think this will become a secret code between us. If one day someone calls him like this, it must be his father.

Today is Father's Day. I asked him if he had any memories before he was four years old. He said there was a vague one, which was in a riverside park...

Yes, at that time, Xiaoshu was about two years old. Still not very good at walking, just learning to walk. I held his clothes in both hands and taught him. He felt safe and then began to walk forward quickly, faster and faster, just when he was about to fall. I took the opportunity to raise him above my head with both hands and held him in my arms, drawing a few circles in the air. He's looking at me... Giggle... A smile. After a while, I put him down. A giant cargo ship passed by on the river. He pointed at the boat and shouted forcefully, "Uh..." .."

After the little tree was born, it felt as if a switch in my mind had been turned on, switching me to father mode and unable to be turned off.

YAOXIAOSHU Vol.63: Rainbow Fart

Give it a score

Once, Teacher Luo was confused because the small cups of Star Coffee were called medium cups and the large cups were called super large cups.

At that time, as a sallow, Niu Ma was also confused about the evaluation system in the company, because here: it was generally called "very good", and "very good" was called "close to perfect". The first time I was evaluated like this, I once thought I had reached the peak of my life. Everyone's evaluation of my work is actually so high. Everyone began to doubt that they didn't do well in primary school Chinese. They had set too high standards for themselves before.

It was not until the appearance of the word "rainbow fart"...

It turned out that in order to maintain a seemingly harmonious and pleasant communication atmosphere, everyone began to praise exaggeratedly and without limit. In such an atmosphere, objective feedback and constructive suggestions will be marginalized, replaced by hypocritical praise for the sake of pleasing and catering to others, and trust among people will be constantly weakened. The proliferation of "rainbow farts" can distort people's values. In a culture that overly emphasizes external performance and immediate feedback, genuine abilities and efforts often become nothing.

People all like to be praised, but they hope even more that the praise is sincere. "Approaching perfection" should be the goal and motivation to strive for, rather than a senseless compliment.

So, a rainbow-colored fart is just a fart.

YAOXIAOSHU Vol.62: It's not Fun When you grow up

Give it a score

It's the annual Children's Day again, and Xiaoshu is very happy. This year, I've decided to give him a gift that can fly in the air - a drone. He can be carried by a drone to experience the feeling of flying like a bird, looking down and discovering the world, and feeling free...

It's quite touching. Nowadays, children are all playing with toys that I once never dared to imagine. The toys I remember are tin frogs and tanks. That era has gone and will never return. While feeling nostalgic, I also think that this generation of kids is rather pitiful. They can't experience the joy of catching fish and shrimp in the river, picking wild fruits and catching grasshoppers on the mountain, swimming naked with a group of playmates and burying themselves in the wild grass of autumn.

But I hope the little tree is happy, at least in its childhood.

Because I know what I will face when I grow up. The complex society and human nature, the fierce competition with no bottom line, the collapse and reconstruction of values, the loss of self and the search for the direction of the future, the meaning of existence, why to make money, and the growth after a breakup. A sense of identity within a group, etc. These problems will accompany him until middle age. It was not until he realized that he was just a human being, a grain of sand in The Times.

I once tried to tell him in advance, but when I recalled my young and impetuous self, I was so reluctant to listen to the advice of adults. So it was still decided to let him freely experience his own life.

I'll tell him: Just have a good time now, because it won't be fun when you grow up...

On May 20th, because the number 520 has been endowed with a special significance today.

The protagonist of the story is a boy named Shu, a guy who is far more sensitive to numbers than to human emotions. For him, May 20th was just an ordinary day in the binary world until the appearance of the "Y-218 type".

The Y-218 digital AI robot comes from "Shake Universe". The torso is crafted from liquid metal refined from the unique crystal ore of the Shaking universe, with a universal display in the middle. The limbs are made of nanoscale high-strength fibers. It can be infinitely extended and retracted. The hands and feet are designed in a modular way, allowing for the assembly of different functional modules as needed. The arrival of Y-218 is to assist the tree in completing a challenging task. So on this special digital festival, Y-218 decided to take the first step of this mission, to find the girl named Hua and win her heart.

Y-218 invaded various social platforms through the Internet and sent out poetic yet slightly bizarre confessions in the name of Tree. These contents attracted the attention of many curious people, including flowers.

As expected, Hua developed a strong interest in the tree's message. She challenged the tree - if she could be found in the real world, she would agree to meet him. So, the tree, carrying the Y-218, embarked on a grand adventure to find love in the city based on the clues left by the little flower. From Seat 520 at the subway station to the longitude and latitude coordinates of special significance, every step is full of unknowns and surprises. When the sun was setting in the west, the tree finally found the girl who was flipping through the picture book "YAOXIAOSHU" in front of bookshelf No. 520 in an old bookstore. The two looked at each other and felt as if they had met and known each other before.

At this moment, a dark cloud was slowly approaching the sun in the sky, and the world was about to enter darkness...

YAOXIAOSHU Vol.60: What You Catch is not Fish

Give it a score

It seems that men's fondness for fishing is an innate instinct. Just think, in ancient times, wouldn't this have been a kind of hunting skill? So fishing itself is a survival skill. It's just that it has now turned into leisure and entertainment.

When I was about ten years old, I would go swimming in the nearby reservoir with the older kids. When tired from swimming, go ashore and use a simple bamboo pole to hang earthworms dug from the soil or small shrimps caught under the stones on the shore as bait. The pound-billed silver carp (scientific name: green tip red 鲌). This fish is naturally fierce. Just by looking at its pouting expression, it has a look of "What are you looking at?" in a defiant manner. After catching the fish, we directly piled up stones on the shore, made a fire, and roasted the branches to eat. It's absolutely fresh, wild, organic and hormone-free, except that there are a bit more fish bones.

Nowadays, when passing by the river, all the people fishing are middle-aged men and grandpas. Alone, find a quiet spot, quietly gaze at the water surface, and aim at the buoy while fishing. I guess they all have seen through life and don't want to socialize. They just want to get close to nature alone and relax their minds and bodies. While waiting, you can reflect on life. Even if a fish bites the hook, one can still gain great joy and a sense of achievement.
Pretty good!

So, when men go fishing, what they are catching is not the fish but their state of mind.

YAOXIAOSHU Vol.59: I Don't Want to Compete

Give it a score

In today's rapidly spinning era, it seems that we have all been drawn into a grand drama called "involution". When I open my eyes in the morning, the screen is filled with a sea of early morning check-ins. When I close my eyes at night, there are unfinished work emails. Children, carrying schoolbags taller than themselves, are struggling in the sea of exercises. When faced with a mountain of tasks, office workers seem to be in an endless race to work overtime. Everyone is like a group of little monsters vying to be Sun Wukong, motivating themselves to do their best, but forgetting to ask themselves: Is it really that good to be Sun Wukong?

Looking back to the past, Mr. Tao's line, "Picking chrysanthemums by the eastern fence, I leisurely see the southern mountain," made so many people yearn for it. That was the true pace of life! But nowadays, our lives have become a complete mess and a mess...

Change is needed.

After all, life is not all about KPIs and score lines. When working, one can pursue efficiency rather than overwork, and understand that the importance of health and happiness is no less than that of promotion and salary increase. Besides, everyone has their own shining points. Why do you have to fight desperately for that "one and only"? The world is so vast, and there will always be a ray of sunshine for you.

So, avoid malicious efforts and occasionally let yourself "hit the line". Maybe you can win a round without much effort.

"Shake the Little Tree Vol.58: I went to see the USS Bruvis.

Give it a score

On the second day of the Lunar New Year, I drove to visit the USS Bruvis.

I'm not one to join in the fun. It's just that the Spring Festival nowadays is really boring. The singing Spring Festival Gala, the familiar yet strange city. Apart from childhood memories, everything else is so unfamiliar. All that remained were my mother's dumplings, the clean air and the sky where stars could be seen, which made me feel that my hometown was still there.

The Brevis is a Panamanian cargo ship that ran aground on this beach due to a major typhoon. After getting off the car, his figure could be seen from afar. Leaning quietly against the beach, the hull of the ship had been eroded by seawater and was covered with rust. There aren't many people by the seaside in winter. Only when I got closer did I realize his enormity. I looked at him, feeling the bitter winter sea breeze blowing on my face and body. The sound of the waves is very loud. After looking at it for a long time, it feels like only that big ship, myself and the sea remain. The breathing slowed down, the eyes were filled with blue, the ears were brimming with the sound of waves, and then the heart gradually became very, very quiet...

A very long time passed... .. Suddenly, I felt a bit sad. A storm ended his life. For the rest of his days, he could only lie on this beach, waiting to be torn apart.

YAOXIAOSHU Vol.57: Long Xing 龘龘

Last time I drew a dragon, I accidentally slipped my hand and ended up drawing a "Golden Steel fox doll". Where did the promise of a prosperous Year of the Dragon come from? But it doesn't matter. I've decided to do it again!

The difficulty here lies in how to combine the image of shaking a small tree with that of a dragon. I've thought of all kinds of plans: shaking the little tree while classmates ride the dragon, soaring through the fairyland in the clouds? Get a dragon's body tattooed on the little tree? Did the student Shaking the little tree instantly transform into a big shot in the underworld? This scene... There can be... later.

Ultimately, it was decided to start with the image of the small tree naturally curling the hair in an explosion, continue this visual symbol, and then combine it with the image of the dragon. So, the first Chinese dragon with a naturally curly and explosive hairstyle on the entire Internet was born. Ha ha.

The dragon is a deity in Chinese culture, capable of summoning wind and rain, symbolizing power, wisdom, auspiciousness and prosperity. Here, I wish everyone to be like this "Little Tree Exploding Dragon", full of vigor and vitality in the New Year, and to cast all the troubles of the old year to the winds! Longxing 龘龘, qiancheng 朤朤, keep smiling, let's welcome this New Year full of joy and surprises together!

YAOXIAOSHU Vol.56: The Golden Fox Kid

Give it a score

Well, originally the plan for this issue was to draw a dragon. This year is the Year of the Dragon, but as I kept drawing, it turned into Wolverine. Xiao Ye said it looked like a fox. Let's just name it "Golden Fox Kid".

Look, how terrifying cultural invasion is!

Looking back on the cartoons from my childhood now, apart from a few domestic ones like Black Cat Sheriff, King Kong Seven Brothers, Shuk and Beta, most of them were from Japan such as Saint Seiya, Skywar, Emergency Response, Flower Fairy, and from the United States like Sheriff Bresta, Transformers and Ultraman. I still remember the plot of it all these years.

When they grow up, the heroes of the Marvel Universe have once again washed the Chinese teenagers. It seems that all the heroes in the world come from the United States, such as Iron Man, Wolverine and Spider-Man. In a few years, Chinese children may not know about Nezha, Sun Wukong and the heroes of The Three Kingdoms, let alone a war god like Bai Qi (in our game, he is actually a monster holding the scythe of death).

So, when shaking a young tree, one must work hard and be original.
Just like the Five-starred Red Flag is hung below our official website, when you click on it, there is a picture that reads: "We should strive to contribute a brick to the cultural Great Wall built for the next generation of China."

YAOXIAOSHU Vol.55: Big Pancakes at Chao Nei Market

Give it a score

The time I spent in Beijing passed by in a flash. I didn't feel it was fast during that period. Ten years later, many scenes still surface from time to time. An event, a person, or a food can all bring memories back to that period of time.

Chaonei Market is located on Chaonei Street within the Second Ring Road, near where I live. Back then, it was just an old alley, but now it has been transformed into the office buildings of Chaonei SOHO. At that time, I lived in one of the small courtyards. Entering the door, there is a deep path. In front of the house, there is a special tree, which is slanted.

I remember back then, I was very busy with work, the house was very small and there was no space to cook, so I basically just looked for food nearby. One time, when I was strolling to the second floor of Chaonai Market, before I could get close, a pleasant aroma wafted towards me. I left upon smelling it and found it was a pastry stand. The freshly cooked pancake has a golden crust with a hint of oil, looking multi-layered. It's crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with countless chopped scallions on it. Every time I'm hesitating about how many to buy...

"How many young men are here?" "Come on..." Um... Half a sheet

So, during those days, I would often go to the pancake stand at Chaonai Market. Usually, I would buy half a pancake and have a bottle of beer, and that would make for a sumptuous dinner. That smell seems to be already in my memory.
